The use of abstracts, orientations and codas in narratives was studied in adolescents, using the Labov and Waletzky (1967) model. Subjects watched a film, then produced written narratives, and gave oral narratives to two peers. The orientation features of props, or objects, and activities of the film's actor, were used most often. Qualitative analysis revealed that subjects' references were accurate.
