The meaning of the expression yamato damashiiJapanese spirit, was distorted throughout History and was used, during World War IIwith a nationalist connotation which completely misrepresented its original conception. This essay aims, then, rescue the first ideas which are associated with it, through some of the most representative pieces of Japanese literature.
