The practice of UK veterinary students and graduates volunteering overseas is nothing new; however, globalisation and an increased awareness of sustainable development mean that the way that volunteer projects are run has changed. Furthermore, the types of opportunities available have also changed. In a debate at the BVA Congress during the London Vet Show, a panel of speakers discussed issues surrounding overseas veterinary projects. Laura Feetham reports
