Microchipping of dogs will become compulsory in Wales from March 1, 2015, and in England from April 6, 2016. As the drafting of microchipping regulations for England nears its final stages, the BVA, the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) and the RCVS have raised concerns about proposals to require additional training for veterinary nurses (VNs) before allowing them to implant microchips. Rachael Gledhill, BVA policy officer, explains.
