‘Animal‐assisted facilities: companionship works its magic’ was the title of a symposium organised by the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations during the recent WSAVA/FECAVA/BSAVA congress in Birmingham. It was clear from the presentations that, while animal‐assisted interventions can bring many benefits for people, the welfare of the animals must also be taken into account. Suzanne Jarvis reports.
