Reporting animal abuse: a vet's responsibility to society?

There is evidence of a link between animal and human abuse so there may be value in cross-reporting between the authorities responsible for investigating suspected cases. A debate called 'Turning a blind eye to abuse?' at this year's BVA Congress considered vets' ability to recognise non-accidental injury in animals and discussed protocols for reporting it.
