The need for scanning surveillance to detect new and emerging diseases has never been greater, delegates attending the Veterinary Laboratories Agency's second Emerging Diseases Symposium were told. Held at the VLA ‐ Weybridge in June, the symposium attracted representatives from Defra's Food and Farming Group, the Welsh and Scottish governments, Natural England, Animal Health, the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, specialist veterinary societies and some of the livestock sector health councils.
