The health and welfare concerns related to hereditary defects in dogs have become a hot topic in the past year. A number of reviews are currently under way to investigate the breeding of dogs. The BVA recognises the importance of this longstanding issue, not only for dogs but for farm and domestic animal species too. It has been, and will continue to be, a major issue for its Ethics and Welfare Group (EWG).
