MEDICATIONS are used for their beneficial actions but, in some patients, can cause adverse effects, some of which are more serious than others. One type of adverse reaction that is often overlooked is the interaction between drugs and diagnostic tests. This article reviews the most common drug‐induced alterations in biochemical parameters. An article in the next issue will examine the effect of medications on haematological parameters.
