WHAT does the future hold for single‐handed practice? Society today is imposing pressures that could make life more difficult for the solo vet in many ways, and some have wondered whether this business format is sustainable. Veterinary surgeons, however, do not lack initiative, and, as Christine Shield suggests, it seems likely that solutions will be found that will ensure the survival of this branch of practice.
