IN this article, Neil Smart looks at coping with loss. As a vet who left the profession to enter the church, Reverend Smart had to learn how to help people suffering from profound loss and grief. He realised, looking back, that there were many similarities with the veterinary practice situation when clients lose a pet. Here he outlines some methods relevant to veterinary surgeons, nurses and receptionists as they comfort those who grieve.
