THE expression 'corporate ownership', when referring to the veterinary profession, has become synonymous with large group or company ownership of multiple practices. However, 'incorporation' is not the exclusive domain of big companies. Many small privately owned businesses, including veterinary practices, have become 'incorporated' in recent years. In this article, Brian Pound and Philip Theo outline the differences between private partnerships and corporate practices, and discuss whether the route to incorporation is likely to be an advantageous one.
