PROVIDING appropriate fluid therapy is essential for the successful management of many medical and surgical conditions, but supplying intravenous fluids to a cat may present some practical difficulties. This article reviews the relevant techniques and the equipment that is available to overcome these problems. A second article, to be published in a later issue, will address the choice of which fluid to use, how much of it to supply and at what rate.
