AN article in the last issue described the biology of the rabies virus, including its epidemiology pathogenesis and immunopathogenesis ( In Practice , March 2000, pp 118‐124). In this article, the clinical signs, diagnosis and control of rabies are discussed, with a brief review of the recently introduced Pet Travel Scheme and action to be taken on suspicion of a case.
