THE Fort Dodge Index allows companion animal practitioners and practice managers to monitor a number of key marketing performance indicators and thereby compare the performance of their own practice with that of other participating practices. In a follow‐up to his introductory article published in the February issue of In Practice , David Cormack looks at some of the results from the 1998 index, concentrating particularly on the management issues raised by the data generated. A future article will discuss trends in the health status of companion animals under the care of the practices participating in the index.
