PERICARDIAL diseases are not as common as valvular, myocardial or congenital heart diseases. However, they are encountered reasonably frequently in practice and are probably one of the most common causes of right‐sided congestive heart failure in dogs. In contrast, clinically significant pericardial disease is rare in the cat. This article focuses on the diagnosis and management of pericardial effusion in the dog.
