PIGS are susceptible to a wide range of pathological lesions affecting the skin. While the sparse hair covering and lack of colour in the vast majority of modern farmed pigs mean that many lesions are obvious to the stockman, the ability to recognise and interpret the significance of lesions is a challenge for the veterinary surgeon dealing with pigs. Skin lesions can be the result of parasitic disease, infectious agents, physical damage by the environment or other pigs, and developmental as well as other, uncertain, causes.
