HYPERTHYROIDISM and diabetes mellitus are well known endocrine disorders of the cat. Recognition and understanding of these two diseases has increased dramatically over the past 10 or 15 years and this has awakened interest in the field of feline endocrinology; a field which, traditionally, has been poorly studied compared to the same subject in the dog. Almost all endocrine disorders diagnosed in the dog have now been recognised in the cat. This article focuses on four emerging feline endocrine disorders: acromegaly, hyperadrenocorticism, hypoadrenocorticism and hypothyroidism.
