THE traditional job description of the vet in practice ‐ working long hours, seven days a week ‐ is no longer seen by recent graduates as the most effective use of their professional skills. The challenge that lies ahead for many practices is how to adapt their way of working without jeopardising client service and practice harmony. In this article, Peter Orpin sets out a practical method of integrating part‐time workers into the practice team, based on a points system for determining a fair pay structure.
