MANY long‐established veterinary practices have existed since a time when planning consent was not needed or was easily obtained. Nowadays, the vet who wishes to buy an established practice, or who wishes to convert an existing building, is faced with negotiating with the local planning authority for permission to do so. This article gives a general introduction to the procedure for obtaining planning permission.
