The main differential diagnoses are other poisons which cause nervous signs. Strychnine With strychnine the convulsions are more severe and triggered by external stimuli, a situation which is less commonly seen in metaldehyde poisoning. Organochlorines These also have pyrexia as a feature, but clinical signs are likely to be much more diverse. Lead The onset of signs with lead poisoning are usually less acute. Blindness not seen with metaldehyde.
