Practice profitability is a key factor in the daily life of any practitioner; however, it is not a topic commonly discussed and vets often struggle to adjust to the realities of commercial practice. Particular barriers, such as the profession's expectations, client expectations and personal expectations, within a highly a competitive market, make it difficult for vets to fulfil their desire to practise high‐quality medicine and surgery. This article looks at the ways vets undercharge for their professional time and how to address this to build commercial viability in practice.
