Background Chronic diarrhoea is not uncommon in adult horses. Affected horses will often maintain a good appetite and bright demeanour, in contrast to those with acute diarrhoea. The condition is can be a frustrating diagnostic and management challenge for both clinicians and owners, with many cases remaining idiopathic despite diagnostic investigations. Aim of the article This article outlines the approach the first‐opinion practitioner can take to diagnosis and possible treatment options when dealing with cases of chronic diarrhoea in adult horses. It follows on from an article published in last month's In Practice that focused on acute diarrhoea in adult horses.
