In the dilemma discussed in the September issue of In Practice , Elizabeth Hele described a scenario where you were presented with Ralph, a geriatric cat with a palpable mass and pleural effusion shown on radiographs. He becomes increasingly dyspnoeic and, as his prognosis is poor and he is suffering, you advise immediate euthanasia. Ralph's owner refuses immediate euthanasia stating she wishes for her daughter to be present at the practice when it is carried out. It will take the daughter two to three hours to reach the practice ( IP , September 2018, vol 40, pp 310‐311). What do you do?
