Although veterinarians are instrumental in discouraging the keeping of primates as pets, they also have a key role in the welfare and health of captive primates, by providing specialised veterinary care for these animals and advice to their owners. This article outlines the husbandry of New World monkeys in captivity, some common diseases and their treatments.
