Vets play an important role in providing evidence to courts on cases of animal cruelty and abuse. In this article, the first in a series on being involved in potential criminal animal welfare cases, James Yeates discusses the important pre‐trial work, both clinical and forensic, that should be considered when dealing with cases of animal cruelty that may be referred for prosecution.
