Exotic species show a lack of overt signs of disease and so it is important to investigate illnesses promptly and thoroughly. Phlebotomy is often an integral part of diagnostics to assess responses to potential underlying infection or biochemical parameters. This article describes how to prepare for phlebotomy in reptile and avian patients and recommends vessels or sample sites that blood could be best sampled from in different species.
