The request to investigate poultry health and/or production problems may arise for a number of different reasons, ranging from unexpected or unexplained bird losses to suboptimal or poor production. Such requests may present varying challenges to the attending veterinarian. This final article in a three‐part series follows descriptions of avian influenza and Newcastle disease (which were published in the September and October issues of In Practice , respectively) and seeks to integrate considerations for the clinical investigation of poultry flocks, differential diagnoses, and features that may prompt suspicion and reporting of avian notifiable disease.
