Veterinary surgeons have an increasingly important role to play in providing services to organic farmers, to ensure that they can sustain profitable production. This article reviews the structure and overall veterinary approach to the organic dairy sector. A second article, to be published in the September issue of In Practice , will look at the management and control of diseases on dairy units under organic regulations.
