A supply of oxygen, both for the maintenance of anaesthesia using volatile anaesthetic agents and the support of animals requiring additional oxygen, is an essential part of modern veterinary practice. In most practices, this is provided via oxygen cylinders. In this article, Keith Barrand discusses an alternative – oxygen concentrators – with comparisons to cylinder oxygen use, where appropriate.
