Species ofPrevotella are prevalent and predominant bacteria residing in animals and humans, and their proteolytic capacity and activity play important roles in nutrient utilization in animals (especially ruminants) and some anaerobic infections of the intestinal, respiratory, and urinary tracts in humans. This study reveals the large repertoire and wide distribution of metallo, serine, and cysteine peptidases, especially secretory peptidases, among thePrevotella species.
