Candida albicans is a fungal commensal organism that can cause serious opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients leading to substantial complications and mortality. A better understanding of the microbe’s biology to develop more effective therapeutic and diagnostic tools is required as invasive candidiasis is a problem of continued clinical importance.
