A novel sphingoglycolipid was isolated fromSphingomonas yanoikuyae , and its structure was identified as a galacturonosyl-β (1→1)-ceramide. This was a characteristic sphingoglycolipid present inS. yanoikuyae and certain other species ofSphingomonas , such asSphingomonas mali ,Sphingomonas terrae , andSphingomonas macrogoltabidus , but not in the type species ofSphingomonas ,Sphingomonas paucimobilis .
