Mutations incapR orcapT cause derepression of the enzymes of thegal operon. Thegal -specific messenger ribonucleic acid is directly proportional to thegal enzyme levels in wild type, capR , andcapT strains. These results indicate thatcapR andcapT control thegal operon at the transcriptional level.
