Severe infections caused by methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are often complicated by persistent bacteremia (PB) despite active antibiotic therapy. Antibiotic resistance rarely contributes to MRSA-PB, suggesting an important role for antibiotic tolerance pathways.
