The calibration of electron beam absorbed dose measurements in water and polystyrene phantoms is discussed in light of the critique by Mattsson and Nahum. The main point of our work is that if electron beam dose measurements are to be made in some phantom material other than water, the material should be carefully chosen so that the transfer of dose to water can be made in the least complicated manner.(AIP)
