The use of aluminum attenuation‐equalizing filters in diagnostic radiology may lead to the introduction of intensity blotches inside and outside the image area on the x‐ray film. These blotches are shown to be Laué diffraction spots; the effect can be minimized by selecting filter material with grain size less than about 10 −3 mm 3 .
