This study investigates the potential of VMAT technology for treatment planning of non‐small lung (NSLC) cancer. VMAT plans were generated for patients previously treated with SBRT for NSLC. When comparing the 3d‐conformal clinical plans and VMAT plans using two arcs, the later showed improved conformality: the 30Gy volume was reduced by 12% and the maximum dose at 2cm from the PTV decreased on average by 18%. For the NSCL treatments, a five‐fold reduction in treatment delivery times using VMAT is also predicted.
