The binding of [ 125 I] humancalcitonin gene‐related peptide (hCGRP) and [ 125 I]Bolton‐Hunter‐labelled substance P (BH‐SP) to human fallopian tube tissue sections was characterized and the respective binding sites were localized by light‐microscopic autoradiography. The hCGRP binding sites were associated with the muscularis, lamina propria and vascular smooth muscle, the latter being the most intensely labelled. BH‐SP binding sites were associated only with blood vessels. This labelling was intense, and appeared to be restricted to the vascular endothelium. These results suggest that calcitonin gene‐related peptide and substance P may act together to regulate local blood flow and plasma extravasation.
