1. The increased iron stored in the liver and spleen of the protein deficient rat is found in the form of ferritin to nearly the same extent as in the normal animal. 2. When the iron in the protein deficient diet is also increased, much of the additionally stored iron still appears as ferritin, especially in the liver. 3. The amounts of ferritin iron found in the liver are such that even the severely protein deficient rat probably provides more apoferritin than the normal animal.
