Neuromuscular transmission has been studied in the serratus anterior muscle of the guinea‐pig. Series of evoked end‐plate potentials were recorded intracellularly in the presence of (+)‐tubocurarine chloride, and mean quantum content estimated from the mean and variance of their amplitudes. Mean ± standard error for these estimates was 156 ± 18. Using the present data, alternative methods for estimating mean quantum content have been compared and discussed, and a new formula has been shown for determining the standard error of individual mean quantum content estimates.
