The intrinsic innervation of the domestic hen's ovary consists of nerves running to the follicles and blood vessels. Both adrenergic and cholinergic components were identified. The extrinsic supply was a complex network of ganglia and nerves; the ovarian and adrenal plexuses were particularly extensive. Nerves were traced from both left and right sympathetic chains. No positive identification of a parasympathetic supply was made but, in view of the cholinergic fibres that were found within the ovary, it is probable that such a supply was present. The possible role of the innervation is discussed in relation to reproductive activity.
