1. The distribution of specific and non‐specific cholinesterases in the retina and optic nerve of the rabbit has been studied by Koelle's histochemical method. 2. Specific cholinesterase was detected in the bipolar and ganglion cells of the retina but not in the rods and cones or in the optic nerve. 3. Non‐specific cholinesterase was detected in the glial cells and septa of the optic nerve and in the nuclei of the bipolar and ganglion cell layers.
