1. In one case of myasthenia gravis, the choline esterase content of affected muscle was found essentially the same as that of two specimens normal human muscle. Our findings are opposed to the hypothesis that myasthenia gravis is due to an excess of choline esterase in the muscle. 2. The mean choline esterase content of the serum of 76 miscellaneous psychotic states was found to be slightly lower than the normal value. 3. In 37 advanced phthisical patients the mean esterase value was markedly lower than normal. 4. In 9 cases of advanced carcinoma there was also a marked lowering of the choline esterase of the serum.
