1. Villikinine is not activated by glucose. 2. Dilute HCI introduced into the duodenum increases sugar absorption by 12·7–30·8 per cent. An intraduodenal injection is without effect on the absorption of sugar in the colon. This increase therefore takes place only in the small intestine. The increased absorption is due to increased motility of the villi. 3. This hormonal regulation of absorption was confirmed by cross‐circulation experiments. 4. Extracts containing villikinine introduced into the intestine increase the automatism of the villi and, hence, the absorption of sugar. 5. Glucose absorption caused by the activity of the villi is estimated as approximately 20 per cent. of the entire absorption.
