1. Administration of thyrotropic hormone definitely increased the basal metabolic rate of the normal, the partially hypophysectomized, and the completely hypophysectomized rabbits. 2. The increase in the metabolic rate did not appear before the fourth day of injections in animals receiving subcutaneous injection. The animals receiving intra‐muscular injection showed an earlier rise in metabolism. 3. Hypophysectomy lowers the metabolic rate. I am very grateful to Professor A. J.
