1. The modified Schmidt method used for decerebration anterior to the pons has been shown to be unsatisfactory for the production of a non‐hyperglycaemic preparation of the fasted rabbit. 2. Decerebration anterior to the pons either by the Schmidt method or by the needle method followed by mechanical damage to the base of the cranium in the neighbourhood of the pituitary fossa is usually followed by an immediate and marked hyperglycæmia. 3. The possible reasons for the occurrence of this hyperglycæmia are discussed.
