Measurements of the diameter of rabbit erythrocytes in plasma show that repeated hæmorrhage results in a small increase in the mean diameter (about 0.5µ). An increase in the scatter of the distribution of the cell sizes sometimes occurs, but this is an inconstant feature. This investigation was carried out under a grant from the Medical Research Council, and was commenced in the Department of Physiology, Edinburgh University, during the time that one of us (W. G. M.) was holding a Crichton Scholarship.
