It is shown that amyl nitrite causes a lowering of pulmonary blood‐pressure Evidence is brought forward to show that there is direct action on the pulmonary blood vessels, and this is supported by the findings in the auricles. The existence of a vasodilator mechanism in the lungs is rendered probable. A revision of the present position of nitrites in the treatment of certain lung diseases is suggested by the results of these experiments.
