The free product construction of compact quantum groups is applied to construct and study compact quantum groups from the maximal and minimal tensor products of Woronowicz Hopf C * ‐algebras, and crossed products of Woronowicz Hopf C * ‐algebras by discrete automorphism groups. The Haar measures and irreducible representations of these quantum groups are described. Examples of compact quantum groups that are neither compact groups nor compact matrix quantum groups, as well as a multitude of non‐trivial examples of Woronowicz Hopf C * ‐dynamical systems, are also constructed in this paper.
